Climates
There are different types of climates. Desert, monsoon, equatorial and savannah. They have almost nothing in common buy you can diferentiate them by knowing their rates of isolation and precipitation.
- Desert: Deserts can be divided into two. Cold deserts and hot deserts. Hot deserts are located on the west sides of continents between latitudes 5º and 30º north and south of the equator. Nights are very cold but during the day it´s very hot. This is because at night there´s no sun. Also hot deserts have little precipitation which is between 250 mm and 300 mm. Deserts form because of the wind. Dry wind blow from the land creating hot deserts. Another reason is that winds cross moutain ranges and create rain shadows areas that makes winds from the equator descend on this lattitudes.
- Cold deserts: They are located in the poles between 60º north of the equator in Eurasia, North America and Canada. Winters are long and very cold and summers are short and warm for these latitudes. Precipitation in this places is light and mostly in the form of snow.
- Monsoon: The monsoon is located in South-East Asia and it has two seasons. The south-west is the wet season and the south-east is the dry season. This is produced because of the change of the wind direction. In the south-west, winds from the sea enters the continent. The winds are moist and an area of low pressure is formed. In the south-west monsoon, the winds enter the continent form the land being dry and leaving little rainfall.
- Equatorial: Equatorial climates are located 5º north and south from the equator. This climate is hot and there´s a large amount of precipitation with no seasonal change (it´s hot and wet all year). In this climate there´s a daily pattern. The average rainfall is of 2500 mm and the average temperature is 25º.
- Tropical: It´s located between 5º to 15º south of the equator in the centre of continents. This particular climate has an alternation between wet and dry seaon. The first season is hot and wet, while the second season is warm and dry. The temperature varies between 8º and the average temperature is of 31º.
